In 2004 I toured Western Canada. In Alberta the fire season was in full swing, so stops had to be made at the airtanker bases. Further up North, in the Northwest Territories, Hay River and Yellowknife are home to Buffalo Airways and several other operators serving the first nations. On our trek South we drove through the beautiful forests of logging country British Columbia and had to hop on a ferry through the Inside Passage before arriving on Vancouver Island. After 4 weeks and 12,000 kms the final leg brought us through the Rockies back to Calgary.
See this trip on a zoomable map (without the flights out of Yellowknife, and main waypoints only). (Opens in new window).
